30 kW / 40 hp at 480 V — what the ratings mean for your motor
The ATV212HD30N4LCD is a 30 kW (40 hp) AC drive from the Altivar 212 series, designed for asynchronous motors. At 480 V supply it draws 44.7 A line current; at 380 V the draw is 56.7 A — the higher current at lower voltage reflects the constant-power region of the drive's output. The integrated Class C2 EMC filter means this drive meets the conducted emission limits for industrial environments (IEC 61800-3 environment 1, category C2) without an external filter — a panel-space and installation-cost saving for most factory-floor applications.
Lifecycle and sourcing — mature, not obsolete
Sourced to order against your BOM quantity through independent distribution. Availability and current pricing confirmed at RFQ — no stock-holding claim, no lead-time number here.
Panel fit and mounting constraints
Dimensions are 240 mm wide, 420 mm high, 214 mm deep — a vertical +/-10° mounting position is specified, with the heat sink on the back. The drive moves 290 m³/h of air through the heatsink; leave the manufacturer's recommended clearance above and below for airflow. Operating altitude is 1000 m without derating; above that, derate 1 % per 100 m up to 3000 m, with a 2000 m limit for corner-grounded distribution networks.
Protection coverage and fieldbus
The drive includes thermal protection for both the drive power stage and the motor (with PTC probe input), short-circuit protection between motor phases and to earth, input phase loss detection, and DC bus overvoltage/undervoltage monitoring — all listed in the protection type set. On the communication side, a 2-wire RS 485 port with Modbus RTU protocol is standard (9600 or 19200 bps, 1–247 addresses). An optional LonWorks communication card is listed as an option card.
