11 kW / 15 hp VFD with integrated C1 EMC filter
The ATV212WD11N4CZH28 is an Altivar 212 AC drive rated for 11 kW (15 hp) at 480 V, designed for variable-speed control of asynchronous motors in industrial applications like pumps, fans, and conveyors. It draws 21.1 A line current at 380 V and 16.7 A at 480 V, with an apparent power of 17.1 kVA at 380 V — the current draw drops at higher line voltage, so sizing the input protection and cabling for the 380 V figure covers the worst case.
EMC compliance and installation constraints
The drive ships with an integrated Class C1 EMC filter, meeting EN 61800-3 / IEC 61800-3 category C1 for both environments 1 and 2, and EN 55011 Group 1 Class B — this means it can be installed in residential or light-industrial settings without an external filter for conducted emissions. Operating altitude is limited to 1000 m without derating; above that, derate current 1 % per 100 m up to 3000 m, and the corner-grounded delta distribution network is restricted to 2000 m max — a constraint that matters for high-altitude installations or ungrounded delta systems. The drive must be mounted vertically within ±10°, with the heat sink oriented for natural convection cooling — the 560 x 290 x 315 mm (H x W x D) footprint needs clearance above and below for airflow.
Protection coverage and switching frequency
Built-in protections cover overheating of the drive and motor, short-circuit between motor phases, earth faults, DC bus overvoltage, input phase loss, and motor phase break — including PTC probe input for motor thermal protection, which saves an external relay. Switching frequency is adjustable from 6 to 16 kHz; running above 12 kHz requires derating the output current — useful for quieter motor operation on fan or pump loads where audible noise is a concern, but the derating must be factored into the continuous duty rating. The drive includes an adjustable PI regulator loop for closed-loop process control, with speed accuracy of ±10 % of nominal slip and torque accuracy of ±15 % — adequate for most HVAC and material-handling applications without an encoder.
Communication and lifecycle
Serial communication uses a 2-wire RS-485 physical interface with Modbus RTU protocol, supporting 1 to 247 addresses at 9600 or 19200 bps — standard for panel integration with a PLC or SCADA system.
