Drive ratings and what they mean for your motor load
The ATV21HU22M3X is a 2.2 kW variable-frequency drive from the Altivar 21 family, designed for three-phase asynchronous motors on a 200-240 V supply (3-phase input). Line current is 7.3 A at 240 V (8.7 A at 200 V), with an apparent power rating of 4 kVA at 240 V — these figures size the upstream protection and cable. Switching frequency is adjustable from 6 to 16 kHz; above 12 kHz a derating factor applies, so if you need quiet motor operation at 16 kHz, expect to reduce continuous output current. Transient overtorque capability is 120 % of nominal motor torque for 60 seconds — useful for breakaway loads or short-duration overloads.
Fieldbus and control interface
The drive includes a 2-wire RS-485 physical interface supporting Modbus RTU at 9600 or 19200 bps, with addressing from 1 to 247. Optional communication cards add BACnet, LonWorks, Metasys N2, or Apogee FLN — useful for building management system integration. An adjustable PI regulator is built in for closed-loop process control (pressure, flow, level) without an external controller.
Compliance and environmental limits
CE marked and carries a broad set of EMC and safety standards: EN/IEC 61800-3 (environments 1 and 2, categories C1–C3), EN/IEC 61800-5-1, and UL Type 1. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 61800-5-1 means it tolerates conductive pollution in industrial enclosures; operating altitude is limited to 2000 m on corner-grounded networks, up to 3000 m otherwise. Shock resistance is 15 gn for 11 ms per IEC 60068-2-27; relative humidity range is 5–95 % non-condensing.
