15 kW VFD for asynchronous motors
The ATV21WD15N4 is a 15 kW Altivar 21 variable frequency drive from Schneider Electric, designed for three-phase asynchronous motors in HVAC and building management applications. It accepts a 380...480 V supply at -15...10 % tolerance, drawing 22.6 A line current at 480 V or 28.4 A at 380 V. The drive's 12...16 kHz adjustable switching frequency lets you trade audible motor noise against thermal derating — at 16 kHz the continuous output current drops, so match the switching frequency to the load duty cycle before locking the BOM.
Panel fit and mounting constraints
The enclosure measures 22.05 in high by 11.4 in wide by 12.4 in deep (560 x 290 x 315 mm), with a vertical mounting orientation required (±10° tolerance). The heat sink assembly needs clearance for airflow — plan the gland plate and cable entry accordingly. Operating altitude is limited to 2000 m for corner-grounded distribution networks; above that up to 3000 m with derating. Pollution degree 2 per IEC 61800-5-1 means the drive suits typical control-room environments, not heavy dust or conductive contamination.
EMC compliance and fieldbus options
The drive ships with an integrated Class A EMC filter and carries CE marking under EN 61800-5-1 and IEC 61800-3 (category C2 for first environment, C3 for second). It meets EN 55011 Class A Group 1 conducted and radiated limits — suitable for industrial zones but may need additional filtering for residential or light-commercial installations. Built-in Modbus RTU over a 2-wire RS-485 physical interface (9600 or 19200 bps, configurable parity) supports up to 247 addresses. Optional communication cards add BACnet, LonWorks, Metasys N2, or Apogee FLN for building automation integration.
