What this drive covers
The ATV320D15M3C is a compact Altivar Machine ATV320 AC drive rated 15.0 kW heavy duty at 240 V, drawing 67.1 A line current in heavy-duty service. It handles motor loads up to that power class — think conveyors, pumps, fans, or mixers in a food-and-beverage or light industrial line. Wall-mount format with dimensions 7.09 in wide, 13.0 in tall, 7.8 in deep — fits a standard 600 mm deep enclosure with room for cabling above and below.
Ratings that matter for the BOM
Heavy-duty rating of 15.0 kW at 240 V means this drive handles a 15 kW motor continuously without derating, as long as the ambient stays within the drive's operating range. The 170–200 % transient overtorque capability gives you headroom for starting loads that peak above the motor nameplate — a conveyor with a stuck roller or a pump with a closed discharge valve. Switching frequency is adjustable from 2 to 16 kHz; run it at 4 kHz for standard motor noise, or push to 8–16 kHz for quieter operation — but above 4 kHz the drive derates continuous current, so budget for that in the motor sizing. Line current at 240 V heavy duty is 67.1 A; apparent power is 27.9 kVA. The input phase-break protection and output phase-to-earth short-circuit protection are built in — no external fusing needed beyond the branch circuit protection.
Communication and I/O fit
The drive ships without an EMC filter — plan for an external filter or shielded motor cable if the installation requires conducted emissions compliance. Communication modules are ordered separately: CANopen, EtherCAT, Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, Ethernet Powerlink, EtherNet/IP, or DeviceNet plug into the option-card slot. Seven discrete inputs (including one configurable as a 0–30 kHz pulse input) and three analogue inputs (0–10 V, ±10 V, 0–20 mA) give you enough I/O for basic speed reference, start/stop, and fault reset without an external PLC. The configurable relay outputs (R1A, R1B, R1C, R2A, R2C) handle run status or fault indication.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Approvals include CE, ATEX, UL, CSA, EAC, and RCM — covers installations in North America, Europe, and the EAEU customs union. The drive meets IEC 61800-5-1 for adjustable-speed drive safety.
