Medium voltage drive for synchronous, permanent magnet, and asynchronous motors
The Schneider Electric ATV6000C150A4242NA3 is an Altivar Process ATV6000 medium voltage drive rated for 1200 kW normal duty and 960 kW heavy duty, covering synchronous, permanent magnet, and asynchronous motors. Its 24-pulse diode rectifier input keeps total harmonic current distortion below 3% per IEEE 519-1992, which avoids the need for external harmonic filters on most grids. The drive ships in a floor-standing enclosure measuring 3760 mm wide by 1400 mm deep by 2751 mm high, with cable entry from the bottom.
Duty ratings and line current
Line current draw is 166 A under heavy duty and 208 A under normal duty, so the supply transformer and upstream protection must be sized for the normal-duty figure even if the motor is derated. Power losses run 41.8 kW heavy duty and 52.2 kW normal duty — that heat lands in the room, not just the cabinet, so ventilation planning starts with these numbers.
Control and communication
The drive includes a 10-inch LCD touchscreen HMI for local commissioning and monitoring. Communication slots accept Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, CANopen, or EtherCAT modules in slot A; encoder feedback modules (digital 5/12 V, analog, resolver, HTL) go in slot B. Two RJ45 ports on the control block handle Ethernet IP and Modbus TCP; a third RJ45 handles Modbus serial. Eight programmable digital inputs (24 V DC, two configurable as pulse inputs up to 30 kHz) and configurable analog I/O cover the control interface.
Protection and compliance
Protection covers line supply overvoltage/undervoltage/phase loss, DC bus overvoltage, transformer thermal overload, cabinet overheating, overcurrent, overload, short-circuit, IGBT cell thermal, motor thermal, motor phase break, motor earth fault, control circuit break, and fan monitoring. The drive carries CE and EAC marking, complies with IEC 61800-3 (EMC category C3 control, C4 power), IEC 61800-4, IEC 61800-5-1, IEC 60529, IEEE 519:1992, and EN/IEC 60076. Pollution degree 2 per IEC 61800-5-1.
