Medium-voltage drive for large motor loads
The ATV6000C338A4242ND is a floor-standing AC drive from the Altivar Process ATV6000 range, designed for permanent magnet, synchronous, and asynchronous motors up to 2360 kW in heavy duty or 2700 kW in normal duty. It uses a 24-pulse diode rectifier bridge on the input, which keeps total harmonic current distortion (THDI) below 3% per IEEE 519-1992 without external filters — a key spec for sites with strict power-quality requirements.
Line current and power delivery
Line current is 408 A in heavy duty and 470 A in normal duty, with apparent power rated at 3380 kVA and a power factor of 0.96. Power losses run 102.6 kW (heavy duty) to 117.3 kW (normal duty) — forced convection cooling handles the thermal load, with a noise level of 83 dB.
Physical footprint and enclosure
The drive ships in a floor-standing enclosure measuring 108.3 in high by 211.02 in wide by 66.9 in deep — plan the substructure and clearance for cable entry from the bottom. The light grey (RAL 7035) cabinet includes a 10-inch LCD touchscreen HMI, plinth, phase-shifting transformer, power cells, cooling fans, and medium-voltage arrestors as standard equipment.
Control and communication options
Control is handled by an IGBT inverter with multilevel PWM output. The drive supports slot-based option cards for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, CANopen (RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals), and EtherCAT, plus encoder interface modules (digital 5/12 V, analog, resolver, HTL) and I/O or relay extension modules. Built-in communication includes two RJ45 ports for Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP and one RJ45 for Modbus serial. The control circuit accepts 100–240 V AC or 120–370 V DC; the cooling fan requires 400 V AC at 17 kVA.
Compliance and lifecycle
Marked CULus, CE, and UKCA, the drive complies with IEC 61800-3, EN/IEC 61800-4, IEC 61800-5-1, IEC 60529, IEEE 519:1992, EN/IEC 60076, and UL 347A. Pollution degree 2 per IEC 61800-5-1.
