The Schneider Electric ATV6000C500A4242NA3 is a medium voltage drive from the Altivar Process ATV6000 series, rated for 5000 kVA apparent power and delivering 4000 kW in normal duty or 3460 kW in heavy duty motor applications. It is designed for asynchronous, synchronous, and permanent magnet motors, with a 24-pulse diode rectifier front end that keeps input THDI below 3% per IEEE 519-1992.
The 5000 kVA apparent power and 4000 kW normal duty motor rating set the size class: this drive is for large induction or synchronous motors in the 3–4 MW range, not for small variable-torque loads. The heavy duty rating of 3460 kW gives headroom for constant-torque or high-starting-torque applications. Line current draws 694 A in normal duty, 596 A in heavy duty — these numbers drive the upstream transformer and cable sizing. The 24-pulse rectifier and integrated EMC filter (C3 on control, C4 on power) mean the drive meets IEEE 519-1992 for harmonic distortion without external filtering in most installations.
The drive ships in a floor-standing enclosure with cable entry from the bottom. Cooling is forced convection; the noise level is 85 dB — plan for hearing protection if the drive is in a manned area. The control block includes two RJ45 ports for Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP and one for Modbus serial, plus slot A for fieldbus option cards (Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, CANopen, EtherCAT). Slot B accepts encoder interface modules (digital 5/12 V, analog, resolver, HTL). Power losses run 151.5 kW in normal duty and 131 kW in heavy duty — that heat must be removed by the room or cabinet ventilation.
