What this drive is for and what it delivers
The ATV630C13N4 is a variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV600 series, designed for asynchronous and synchronous motors in process and utilities applications. In heavy duty the continuous output is 211 A at 2.5 kHz, driving 110 kW. Line current draw at full load is 237 A at 380 V normal duty and 213 A at 480 V normal duty; heavy duty figures are 201 A and 165 A respectively. The output frequency range of 0.1 to 500 Hz covers standard induction motors and higher-speed synchronous machines without needing an external frequency multiplier.
Safety, compliance, and integration
Built-in STO (safe torque off) rated SIL 3 per IEC 61508 and EN 13849-1 means this drive can serve in safety circuits up to that integrity level without an external safety relay for the torque-off function. The drive carries CE marking and complies with UL 508C, IEC 61800-3 (environment 1 category C2 and environment 2 category C3), IEC 61800-5-1, IEC 61000-3-12, and IEC 60721-3 — a broad set of North American and international standards that covers most industrial installations. Integrated EMC filter rated for 150 m motor cable in IEC 61800-3 category C3 environments means it meets conducted emission limits for second-environment (industrial) installations without an add-on filter box in most cases.
Field connections and expansion
Onboard communication includes Ethernet, Modbus TCP, and Modbus serial — covers most plant-floor networks without a slot card. For Profibus DP, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, CANopen, BACnet MS/TP, or Ethernet Powerlink, a Slot A communication module is required. Eight discrete inputs are provided, with DI7 and DI8 programmable as pulse inputs up to 30 kHz — useful for encoder or flowmeter feedback without an add-on card. The adjustable PID regulator is built in, so closed-loop control for pressure, flow, or level is handled within the drive — no external controller needed for single-loop process regulation. Wall-mount installation with vertical orientation within ±10 degrees; forced convection cooling moves 600 m³/h of air, so enclosure ventilation must be sized to handle that airflow and the 69.9 dB noise level.
Environmental limits and derating
Relative humidity 5...95 % without condensation per IEC 60068-2-3; shock resistance 15 gn for 11 ms; vibration resistance 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 2-13 Hz and 1 gn at 13-200 Hz — figures that match typical IEC 60068-2-6 and -2-27 levels for panel-mounted gear. Base IP rating is IP00 (open chassis); IP21 is achievable with the VW3A9704 kit — needed if the drive is mounted outside a closed cabinet in a clean indoor environment.
