160 kW process drive with STO and integrated EMC filter
The ATV630C16N4 is a 160 kW normal duty / 132 kW heavy duty variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV600 series, designed for asynchronous and synchronous motors in process and utility applications. The integrated EMC filter meets IEC 61800-3 category C3 for 150 m cable runs, which covers most industrial plant-floor installations without an external filter.
Output current and line draw across duty cycles
Nominal output current is 302 A; line current at 380 V normal duty is 284 A, dropping to 237 A in heavy duty — the 47 A difference reflects the lower continuous torque capability of the heavy-duty rating, which matters when the motor spends extended time at full load. Maximum total harmonic current distortion (THDI) is below 48% at full load per IEC 61000-3-12, so the drive stays within typical plant power-quality limits without a line reactor in most installations. Output frequency range is 0.1...500 Hz, with an adjustable PID regulator for closed-loop process control — useful for pump, fan, or compressor applications where you need to hold pressure or flow.
Safety, compliance, and fieldbus integration
The drive carries CE marking and complies with UL 508C, IEC 61800-3 (environments 1 and 2, categories C2 and C3), IEC 61800-5-1, and IEC 61000-3-12 — covers both North American and European installation codes. Slot A accepts fieldbus option cards for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, CANopen (daisy chain RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals), Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP/MD-Link, BACnet MS/TP, and Ethernet Powerlink — the drive ships with Modbus serial and Modbus TCP/Ethernet onboard.
Mounting, cooling, and environmental limits
Wall-mount design with IP00 protection as shipped; an IP21 upgrade kit (VW3A9704) is available for environments where drip or tool protection is needed — the base IP00 rating means the drive must be installed inside a panel or enclosure that provides the final ingress protection. Forced convection cooling moves 600 m³/h (158,506 Gal/hr US) of air; noise level is 69.9 dB — audible in a quiet control room but typical for a drive of this power class. Vibration resistance is 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 2-13 Hz and 1 gn at 13-200 Hz per IEC 60068-2-6 — suitable for floor-mounted panels near rotating machinery.
For a line-down replacement or project build, the drive is available on a quoted-to-order basis.
