220 kW normal duty / 160 kW heavy duty — the duty rating drives the load match
The ATV630C22N4 delivers 427 A continuous output at 2.5 kHz in normal duty (220 kW on a standard 400 V motor), and 302 A continuous in heavy duty (160 kW). The heavy-duty figure is the one you size against for constant-torque loads like conveyors or extruders; normal duty covers variable-torque pumps and fans where the overload requirement is lower. Line current draw at 380 V normal duty is 397 A; at 480 V normal duty it drops to 324 A. Heavy-duty line current at 380 V is 296 A, at 480 V it is 246 A. These numbers govern the upstream breaker and cable sizing — the 480 V figures are the ones to use for North American 460 V installations.
STO SIL 3 and integrated EMC filter — safety and compliance built in
Safe Torque Off (STO) is integrated to SIL 3 per IEC 61508 and PL e per ISO 13849-1, so the drive removes motor torque without a separate safety contactor. The integrated EMC filter meets IEC 61800-3 category C3 for 50 m cable runs — enough for most industrial environments without an external filter. Standards compliance covers UL 508C, IEC 61800-3 (environments 1 category C2 and 2 category C3), IEC 61800-5-1, IEC 61000-3-12, and IEC 60721-3. The drive also carries CE marking.
Wall-mount IP00 — panel integration constraints
The drive is IP00 as delivered — no enclosure, so it requires a cabinet. An IP21 kit (VW3A9112) is available if the installation needs drip protection. Wall-mount only; operating position is vertical ±10 degrees. Forced-convection cooling moves 860 m³/h of air. The noise level is 73 dB — factor this into cabinet acoustic design if the drive is near operator stations.
Communication slot A — fieldbus flexibility
Slot A accepts plug-in communication modules for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, CANopen (daisy chain RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals), Ethernet Powerlink, and BACnet MS/TP. The base drive also includes Modbus serial and Modbus TCP Ethernet as standard ports. Slot A/Slot B also supports digital and analog I/O extension modules and output relay extension modules — useful when the 8 built-in discrete inputs (DI7, DI8 programmable as 30 kHz pulse inputs) are not enough.
