Active production — what that means for procurement
The ATV630C25N4428: The part carries CE marking and complies with UL 508C, IEC 61800-3, and IEC 61800-5-1, which covers the documentation a compliance team needs for panel certification.
Motor power and output current — sizing the drive to the load
Rated 250 kW (400 hp) for normal-duty applications and 220 kW (300 hp) for heavy-duty cycles, this Altivar Process drive is sized for medium-voltage motor control in process and utilities environments — pumps, fans, compressors, and conveyors that run continuously or under variable torque. Continuous output current is 481 A at a 2.5 kHz switching frequency for normal duty, and 387 A at 2.5 kHz for heavy duty. The 481 A figure is the headline rating — it governs the motor full-load current the drive can deliver without derating. For applications requiring higher switching frequencies (quieter motor operation), the output current must be derated per the drive's thermal model. Line current draw is 451 A at 380 V (normal duty) and 366 A at 480 V (normal duty). The supply voltage range is 380...480 V at 50/60 Hz, which covers standard global industrial mains. The integrated EMC filter meets IEC 61800-3 category C3 for 50 m cable runs — suitable for most industrial installations without external filtering.
Safety and control integration
This simplifies the control panel wiring and reduces component count in a guarding application. The drive accepts communication modules via Slot A: Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, CANopen, and Ethernet Powerlink. Native Modbus serial and Ethernet ports are onboard. This fieldbus flexibility lets the ATV630 slot into existing automation architectures — whether the plant runs on a legacy Profibus network or a modern EtherNet/IP line. Eight discrete inputs are provided, with DI7 and DI8 programmable as pulse inputs up to 30 kHz. An adjustable PID regulator is built in, so the drive can close a loop on pressure, flow, or level without an external controller — a common requirement in pumping and HVAC applications.
Environmental ratings and mounting constraints
IP00 as standard — the drive is open-frame and intended for installation inside an electrical enclosure. An IP21 kit (VW3A9113) is available for environments where drip protection is needed. Wall-mount only; operating position must be vertical within ±10 degrees. Forced convection cooling moves 1260 m³/h of air, so clearance around the heatsink is non-negotiable in the panel layout. Vibration resistance is 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 2–13 Hz and 1 gn at 13–200 Hz per IEC 60068-2-6. Shock resistance is 15 gn for 11 ms per IEC 60068-2-27. Noise level is 76 dB — relevant if the drive is installed in a noise-sensitive area. Relative humidity range is 5...95 % without condensation per IEC 60068-2-3.
