250 kW process drive with STO SIL 3
The ATV630C25N4F is a 250 kW normal-duty / 200 kW heavy-duty variable speed drive from Schneider Electric's Altivar Process ATV600 series, designed for asynchronous and synchronous motors in process and utility applications. Continuous output current is 477 A at 2.5 kHz switching for normal duty, 370 A at 2.5 kHz for heavy duty, from a 380-440 V supply. The built-in safe torque off (STO) function meets SIL 3 — essential for safety circuits where the drive must reliably block rotation during maintenance or fault conditions.
Physical fit and cooling
Floor-standing enclosure rated IP21 per IEC 61800-5-1 and IEC 60529, cooled by forced convection moving 1300 m³/h of air. Noise level is 70 dB — factor this into the equipment room layout if operators work nearby. Operating altitude range is 1000-4800 m with a 1% current derating per 100 m above 1000 m. Ambient temperature range is -15 to 40 °C without derating, 40-50 °C with derating applied. The drive must be mounted vertically ±10°.
EMC and harmonic compliance for installation planning
Integrated EMC filter compliant with IEC 61800-3 category C3 for 150 m cable runs — suitable for industrial environments where the drive is installed in a separate enclosure from the supply transformer. Total harmonic current distortion (THDI) is below 48% at full load per IEC 61000-3-12. Immunity meets electrostatic discharge level 3, radiated field level 3, fast transient level 4, surge level 3, and conducted RF level 3 per IEC 61000-4-2 through -6.
Fieldbus and I/O configuration
Slot A accepts communication modules for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, CANopen (daisy chain RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals), Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP/MD-Link, BACnet MS/TP, or Ethernet Powerlink. The drive also carries Ethernet, Modbus serial, and Modbus TCP as native ports. Eight discrete inputs are standard, with DI7 and DI8 programmable as pulse inputs up to 30 kHz at 24 V DC. An adjustable PID regulator is built in for closed-loop process control without an external controller.
