The ATV630C25N4US is a 380-480 V variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV600 series, rated for 481 A continuous output in normal duty and 387 A in heavy duty, covering motors up to 250 kW (normal duty) or 220 kW (heavy duty). It handles both asynchronous and synchronous motors, with a 0.1-500 Hz output range.
Duty selection and real-world headroom
Line current draw differs by supply voltage and duty: 451 A at 380 V normal duty, 366 A at 480 V normal duty; heavy duty drops to 365 A (380 V) and 301 A (480 V). The 400 hp normal duty rating translates to 300 hp in heavy duty — a 25% derating that matters if your application cycles near full load. Always size cabling and upstream protection for the normal-duty line current at your actual supply voltage.
EMC and compliance package
An integrated EMC filter covers 50 m cable runs to IEC 61800-3 category C3 (second environment). For first-environment installations (residential or light commercial), an external filter is needed. The drive also carries UL 508C, IEC 61800-5-1, and pollution degree 2 rating. Total harmonic current distortion stays below 48% at full load per IEC 61000-3-12.
Mounting, cooling, and environmental limits
Wall-mount only, vertical within ±10°. IP00 as delivered; a VW3A9113 kit adds IP21. Forced convection moves 1260 m³/h of cooling air — plan for at least that clearance above and below. Vibration tolerance is 1.5 mm p-p (2-13 Hz) and 1 gn (13-200 Hz); shock rated at 15 gn, 11 ms. Operating altitude up to 1000 m without derating; above that, derate 1% per 100 m.
Safety and communication options
Safe Torque Off (STO) is built in to SIL 3. Slot A accepts a wide range of fieldbus modules: Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, CANopen, Ethernet IP, BACnet MS/TP, or Ethernet Powerlink. The drive also includes Modbus TCP and Modbus serial as standard. Eight digital inputs, two configurable as high-speed pulse (up to 30 kHz).
