The ATV630D15N4US is a 15 kW normal-duty / 11 kW heavy-duty variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV600 series, designed for asynchronous and synchronous motors in process and utilities applications. It accepts a 380–480 V supply at 50/60 Hz and delivers a continuous output current of 31.7 A at 4 kHz in normal duty, or 23.5 A at 4 kHz in heavy duty. That means for a 20 hp motor on a pump or fan, you run normal duty; for a 15 hp constant-torque load like a conveyor or extruder, you step to heavy duty and the drive handles the higher overload profile. The integrated EMC filter is rated for IEC 61800-3 category C2 up to 50 m of motor cable, and category C3 up to 150 m. For a CE-marked panel going into a first-environment (residential/commercial) installation, the C2 rating at 50 m is the relevant limit — beyond that you need an external output filter. The drive also carries STO (Safe Torque Off) to SIL 3 per IEC 61508 and EN 13849-1, which covers the safety function for unplanned restart prevention without an external safety relay.
Wall-mount the drive vertically within ±10°, with forced convection cooling requiring 215 m³/h of clearance around the heatsink. The IP21 enclosure (UL Type 1) handles dry indoor panels; for washdown or dust environments, plan a separate enclosure. Eight discrete inputs are on board, with DI7 and DI8 programmable as pulse inputs up to 30 kHz — enough for a basic encoder feedback or flowmeter pulse train. The drive also includes an adjustable PID regulator, so for a simple pressure or level loop you can close the control inside the drive without an external controller. Slot A accepts fieldbus option cards: Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, CANopen, Ethernet Powerlink, or BACnet MS/TP. The base unit includes Ethernet, Modbus serial, and Modbus TCP on the communication port.
