The ATV630D18M3US is a Schneider Altivar Process drive rated for 18.5 kW normal duty on a 200-240 V supply, with a continuous output current of 78.4 A and a heavy-duty rating of 63.4 A at 4 kHz. It ships without an EMC filter, so for installations in IEC 61800-3 environment 1 category C2 or environment 2 category C3 you'll need to add external filtering. IP21 enclosure, wall-mount. Operating altitude up to 4800 m with current derating 1% per 100 m. Vibration resistance: 1.5 mm peak-to-peak up to 13 Hz, then 1 g to 200 Hz. Shock 15 gn for 11 ms. Mount vertical within ±10°.
What the current ratings really mean
The 78.4 A continuous output is the headline figure, but the working current depends on your duty cycle and switching frequency at 4 kHz. Normal duty gives you the full 78.4 A; heavy duty drops to 63.4 A. The motor power rating of 18.5 kW normal / 15 kW heavy duty lines up with common 25 hp and 20 hp motors. If you plan to run at 8 kHz switching, derate further per the drive's thermal curve — the spec table shows 4 kHz ratings; higher frequencies reduce available current.
Built-in safety and comms flexibility
STO (safe torque off) SIL 3 is embedded — no separate safety relay needed for that function. That saves panel space and wiring time during commissioning. Slot A accepts multiple fieldbus modules: Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, CANopen, BACnet MS/TP, Ethernet Powerlink. The base drive also has Ethernet, Modbus serial, and Modbus TCP onboard. The adjustable PID regulator makes it a natural fit for process applications like pumps and fans.
