The ATV630D37N4US is an active-production Altivar Process variable speed drive sized for 37 kW normal duty motors on 380-480 V supplies. It delivers 74.5 A continuous at 4 kHz in normal duty, with an integrated EMC filter rated for IEC 61800-3 category C2 up to 50 m and C3 up to 150 m of motor cable.
What the duty ratings mean for fit
The drive carries two distinct output current curves: 74.5 A continuous at 4 kHz for normal duty (intended for variable-torque loads like pumps and fans), and 61.5 A at 4 kHz for heavy duty (constant-torque loads such as conveyors or mixers). The motor power ratings track the same split: 37 kW normal duty, 30 kW heavy duty. Match the load profile to the correct curve — the heavy-duty rating provides headroom for peak torque demands without derating the switching frequency. The integrated EMC filter reduces external Bill of Materials. It meets IEC 61800-3 category C2 for installations up to 50 m of motor cable, and category C3 up to 150 m. That covers most industrial panel-to-motor distances without an add-on filter.
Wall-mount the drive vertically (+/-10°). Forced-convection cooling with a 240 m³/h airflow — allow clearance above and below for ventilation. Rated IP21 (IEC 60529) and UL type 1, suitable for clean indoor industrial environments. An adjustable PID regulator is built in for closed-loop process control. The 8 discrete inputs include two configurable as pulse inputs up to 30 kHz. Slot A accepts communication modules (Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, CANopen, Ethernet Powerlink, BACnet MS/TP). Slot A and slot B also accept digital/analog I/O extension and output relay modules. Safe Torque Off (STO) to SIL 3 is integrated — no external safety relay needed for that function.
