The Schneider ATV630D45N4Z is a standard version Altivar Process drive rated for 45 kW normal duty at 380-480 V, with a continuous output current of 88 A at 4 kHz. That 88 A figure drives your cable sizing and upstream breaker selection — normal duty at 4 kHz gives you full torque down to a 4:1 speed range. The heavy duty rating (37 kW / 74.5 A) handles constant-torque loads like conveyors or extruders where you need more overload capacity. STO (safe torque off) SIL 3 is built in. No external safety relay for the stop circuit; just wire your safety contactor or safety PLC directly to the drive terminals. That saves a DIN-rail slot and a few wiring man-hours per panel. On the communication side, Modbus serial and Ethernet Modbus TCP are standard. Slot A accepts a Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, CANopen, or Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP module — whichever fieldbus your plant floor runs. The onboard Ethernet port handles most TCP-based applications without an option card. The integrated EMC filter meets IEC 61800-3 category C2 at 10 m and category C3 at 50 m (with the EMC plate). For most industrial environments you can skip the external filter bracket; just make sure you've got the proper gland plate and shielded motor cable to keep compliance.
Mounting and environmental notes
Cabinet mount with a heatsink and forced-convection fan. The cooling fan moves 240 m³/h at full speed — that means your enclosure ventilation grille needs free area roughly twice the fan sweep; check for obstructions near the intake. IP20 on the body (IP00 at the bottom terminals), so keep live parts behind a door. Mount vertically within 10 degrees of plumb; side-mounting or laying it flat kills the fan path and voids the thermal derating. Pollution degree 2, 95 % relative humidity (non-condensing). Altitude from 1000 m to 4800 m requires derating 1 % per 100 m above 1000 m. Vibration resistance: 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 2–13 Hz, then 1 gn at 13–200 Hz (IEC 60068-2-6). Shock rating: 15 gn for 11 ms (IEC 60068-2-27). If your panel is mounted on a machine that sees repetitive impact (stamping press, crusher), add dampening feet or a sub-panel with isolation mounts.
