What this drive delivers on a 240 V line
The ATV630U40M3US is a 200–240 V input drive from the Altivar Process ATV600 family, rated 4 kW normal duty and 3 kW heavy duty. On a 240 V supply, line current draws 12.9 A in normal duty and 10.2 A in heavy duty — the numbers you need for feeder breaker sizing and input wiring. Continuous output current is 18.7 A at 4 kHz switching in normal duty, and 13.7 A at 4 kHz in heavy duty. That 4 kHz carrier frequency is the default; if you raise it to quiet motor whine, the output current derates — plan your motor load against the heavy-duty figure if the application is cyclic or high-torque.
Safety and compliance — the STO and the standards stack
Built-in Safe Torque Off (STO) rated SIL 3 per IEC 61508 and EN/IEC 13849-1 means this drive can serve in safety circuits that remove drive torque without a separate contactor. The STO function is standard, not an option card — one less thing to spec separately. The drive carries UL 508C, IEC 61800-3 (environment 1 category C2 and environment 2 category C3), and IEC 61800-5-1. Marking is CE, and it's TAA/BAA compliant via COTS.
Panel fit and connections
Wall-mount enclosure with IP21 per IEC 60529 and UL Type 1 — indoor use only, no washdown. Forced convection cooling moves 38 m³/h (about 10,000 US gal/hr) of air; noise level is 54.5 dB. Mount vertical within ±10°. Eight discrete inputs, two of which (DI7, DI8) are programmable as 0–30 kHz pulse inputs. Built-in communication ports are Modbus TCP, Ethernet, and Modbus serial. Slot A accepts option cards for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, CANopen, EtherNet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, and Ethernet Powerlink.
No EMC filter fitted as standard (: Without EMC filter). If the installation requires conducted emission compliance below the limits this drive meets with an external filter, factor that into the panel layout and cost.
