5.5 kW VFD with integrated safety and EMC
The ATV630U55N4US is a 5.5 kW normal duty variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV600 series, designed for asynchronous and synchronous motor control in process and utility applications. Rated supply voltage is 380-480 V, delivering 12.7 A continuous output at 4 kHz in normal duty, or 9.3 A in heavy duty mode for 4 kW motor loads. Built-in safe torque off (STO) function rated SIL 3 per IEC 61508 and EN 13849-1 means this drive can serve in safety circuits without an external safety relay for the stop function — the drive itself disables torque on demand.
EMC filter and compliance for global installs
The integrated EMC filter covers both C2 and C3 environments: 50 m cable length for category C2 (first environment, residential/commercial) and 150 m for category C3 (second environment, industrial), per IEC 61800-3. TAA/BAA compliant via COTS designation, meeting US government procurement requirements for domestic or trade-agreement sourcing.
Communication and I/O flexibility
Built-in Modbus serial, Modbus TCP, and Ethernet ports provide baseline connectivity; Slot A accepts optional communication modules for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, CANopen, EtherNet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, or Ethernet Powerlink. Eight discrete inputs include two programmable as pulse inputs up to 30 kHz for encoder or flowmeter feedback, with 1 MOhm impedance and 500 V DC isolation to earth for 1 minute. An adjustable PID regulator is built into the control loop, allowing closed-loop process control without an external controller — set the setpoint and gains directly in the drive parameters.
Mounting and environmental ratings
Wall-mount enclosure rated IP21 per IEC 60529 and UL type 1 — suitable for indoor, dry locations where dripping water or falling dirt is the only exposure; not for washdown or outdoor use. Forced convection cooling moves 38 m³/h of air; noise level is 54.5 dB. Operating altitude up to 1000 m without derating, then 1% current derating per 100 m to 4800 m. Rated vibration resistance to IEC 60068-2-6: 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 2-13 Hz, 1 gn at 13-200 Hz. Shock resistance 15 gn for 11 ms per IEC 60068-2-27.
No official successor or cross-reference part exists; this is the current production variant. The standard version designation means no factory-installed options — communication modules and I/O extensions are ordered separately as Slot A accessories.
