30 kW process drive for pump, fan, and conveyor duty
The ATV650D30N4 is a 30 kW (40 hp) variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV600 series, designed for asynchronous and synchronous motor control in process and utilities applications. It delivers 61.5 A nominal output current and accepts a 380-480 V supply at 50/60 Hz.
Heavy duty vs normal duty — which rating governs the real load
The drive is rated 22 kW (25 hp) in heavy duty and 30 kW (40 hp) in normal duty. Heavy-duty continuous output current is 39.2 A at 4 kHz switching; normal duty pushes to 46.3 A at 4 kHz. Line current draw differs by duty: 34.4 A at 480 V for normal duty, 29.9 A at 480 V for heavy duty. At 380 V the numbers climb to 53.3 A (normal) and 34.1 A (heavy). The integrated EMC filter meets IEC 61800-3 category C2 at 50 m cable and category C3 at 150 m cable, with total harmonic current distortion below 48 % from 80-100 % load per IEC 61000-3-12.
Safety, standards, and environmental fit
The drive carries CE marking and complies with IEC 61800-3 (environment 1 category C2, environment 2 category C3), IEC 61800-5-1, IEC 61000-3-12, IEC 60721-3, and UL 508C. IP55 per IEC 60529 and IEC 61800-5-1 means the enclosure is dust-protected and water-jet resistant — suitable for washdown areas or outdoor installation under a canopy. Wall-mount with vertical orientation ±10°; operating ambient -15 to 40 °C without derating, up to 50 °C with derating. Altitude derating starts above 1000 m at 1 % per 100 m.
Communication and I/O expansion
Slot A accepts communication modules for PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, CANopen (RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals), Ethernet Powerlink, Profibus DP V1, and BACnet MS/TP. Both slots A and B accept digital/analog I/O extension modules and output relay extension modules. Onboard Modbus serial and Modbus TCP are standard. Eight discrete inputs, two of which are programmable as 0-30 kHz pulse inputs. The adjustable PID regulator enables closed-loop control without an external controller. Output frequency range is 0.1-500 Hz.
