Drive rating and fit for your motor load
The Schneider ATV6A0C50Q4 is an Altivar Process ATV600 modular drive rated 500 kW at 400 V in normal duty (ND) and 400 kW in heavy duty (HD). The corresponding line current is 846 A ND and 681 A HD at 400 V, so your motor and cable should be sized for those currents. The drive outputs voltage up to the supply level and covers a supply frequency of 50...60 Hz ±5%. It ships as a modular kit: one control unit, mounting hardware, power connections, fuses, three 160 kW power modules, and two front covers. The cabinet-mount design uses forced convection cooling and is rated for pollution degree 2 per IEC 61800-5-1.
Control interface and I/O specifics
Analog inputs (AI1, AI2, AI3) are software-configurable for voltage (0-10 V DC, 30 kOhm) or current (0-20 mA / 4-20 mA, 250 Ohm), 12-bit resolution, with a linearity error of ±0.15% and accuracy ±0.6% over a 60°C drift. Analog outputs (AO1, AO2) are ±1% accurate. Relay outputs: one configurable fault relay (NO/NC) and two sequence relays (NO), all rated for 100,000 cycles electrical.
Communication and options
The drive comes with embedded Modbus serial (2-wire RS-485, RTU format) and Modbus TCP over Ethernet (10/100 Mbit/s, half/full duplex, auto-negotiation). Slot A accepts option cards for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, CANopen, or Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP. Slots A/B can also hold digital/analog I/O extension or output relay extension modules. This makes fieldbus slice integration straightforward for most automation architectures.
Safety, EMC, and standards compliance
The integrated STO function achieves SIL 3 per IEC 61508 / IEC 13849-1, covering motor and drive thermal protection, safe torque off, overcurrent, earth fault, short-circuit, DC bus overvoltage, line supply phase loss, and overspeed. The EMC filter is integrated and supports 300 m of shielded motor cable while meeting IEC 61800-3 category C3 (second environment, industrial). Harmonic current THDI is under 48% full load per IEC 61000-3-12.
