Drive selection memo: normal vs heavy duty and safety bundling
The ATV6B0C25T6 is a modular Altivar Process ATV600 drive rated 250 hp normal duty and 200 hp heavy duty at 600 V, drawing 199 A / 160 A line current respectively. Apparent power sits at 207 kVA normal duty, 166 kVA heavy duty. Integrated safe torque off (STO) to SIL 3 means this drive can serve a safety function without an external contactor for the power removal – one less component in the panel. The safety function is delivered on the control board, so wiring to the drive's STO terminals is straightforward for the integrator. The built-in EMC filter meets IEC 61800-3 category C3 for cable runs up to 300 m (984.3 ft). That covers most industrial runs inside a plant; if your line side is close to a residential mains, you may need an external filter for C2 compliance. The filter is pre-installed, so no separate ordering step for a typical machine builder.
Compliance and standards stack
The drive carries CE marking and complies with IEC 61800-3 (EMC), IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), IEC 61000-3-12 (harmonic limits), IEC 60721-3 (environmental classification), IEC 61508 / IEC 13849-1 (functional safety), and UL 61800-5-1. Pollution degree 2 per IEC 61800-5-1 suits typical controlled environments. Total harmonic current distortion (THDI) is below 5 % at full load per IEEE 519, so you can usually skip an external line reactor unless the supply is very weak. Prospective line short-circuit current rating is 50 kA – check your available fault current against that when selecting upstream overcurrent devices.
Communication and I/O expansion
The drive comes with a Modbus serial port (RTU, 2-wire RS-485, 1–247 addresses) and a Modbus TCP/Ethernet port (10/100 Mbit/s, half/full duplex, auto-negotiation). Slot A accepts a communication module for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, or CANopen (RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals). Slot A also accepts a digital/analog I/O extension or output relay extension module, and Slot B can take a second extension module. For a PROFINET or EtherNet/IP installation, order the appropriate option card separately; the base unit does not include one. Switching frequency is adjustable 2 to 4.9 kHz with derating; higher frequencies reduce motor noise but may require a larger drive frame if current is near the rating.
Mounting and environmental
Cabinet-mount only (UL type 1 or type 12 conduit box integration). Forced convection cooling – keep clearances per the instruction sheet for airflow. Shock tested to 4 gn for 11 ms per IEC 60068-2-27, vibration 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 2–13 Hz and 0.5 gn at 13–200 Hz per IEC 60068-2-6.
