110 kW drive for asynchronous and synchronous motors
The ATV930C11N4C is a 110 kW normal duty / 90 kW heavy duty variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV900 family, designed for 3-phase 380-480 V supplies. It delivers 211 A continuous at 2.5 kHz switching in normal duty, and 173 A in heavy duty — the rating that governs the motor sizing for constant-torque loads like conveyors or extruders. This is the standard version without a built-in braking chopper. If the application needs dynamic braking for overhauling loads (cranes, centrifuges, vertical conveyors), an external braking resistor and chopper module must be added.
Current ratings and duty selection
At 2.5 kHz switching frequency, the drive delivers 211 A continuous in normal duty (110 kW typical motor) and 173 A in heavy duty (90 kW). Heavy duty is the spec to use for constant-torque or high-starting-torque applications — the drive's thermal capacity is sized to the HD current, not the ND figure. The switching frequency can be raised above 2.5 kHz, but the continuous output current must be derated per the drive's thermal model. At higher carrier frequencies, motor acoustic noise drops but the drive's IGBT junction temperature rises, reducing the available output.
Mounting, enclosure, and environmental limits
Wall-mount enclosure, IP21 / UL Type 1 — suitable for indoor, clean environments. The drive must be mounted vertically within ±10° for proper convective cooling. Forced air volume is 600 m³/h; the fan intake and exhaust need clearance per the installation manual. Rated for 1000 m altitude without derating. Above that, derate output current 1% per 100 m up to 4800 m. Ambient temperature range is not listed in this record, but the cooling air volume and IP21 enclosure suggest a standard 40-50 °C ambient ceiling — confirm the derating curve for the specific installation. Vibration resistance: 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 2-13 Hz, 1 gn at 13-200 Hz per IEC 60068-2-6. Shock: 15 gn for 11 ms per IEC 60068-2-27. The drive can handle the mechanical environment of a typical motor control centre or panel on a concrete floor.
Communications, I/O, and option slots
Embedded communication ports support EtherNet/IP, Modbus serial, and Modbus TCP. The Ethernet port handles 10/100 Mbit with half/full duplex and autonegotiation. A serial port runs at 9600 or 19200 bps, 8-bit data with configurable parity. Three option slots (A, B, C) accept fieldbus modules (Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, CANopen, Ethernet Powerlink), I/O extension modules, encoder interface modules (digital 5/12 V, analog, resolver), and relay output modules. Slot A is typically used for the primary fieldbus; slots B and C for encoder feedback or additional I/O. Internal 24 V DC supply for digital inputs and STO (safe torque off) — 21-27 V DC. Separate 10.5 V DC reference for a 1-10 kΩ potentiometer. External 24 V DC supply (19-30 V) can also be used for digital inputs.
Standards, approvals, and grid compliance
Listed to UL 508C (power conversion equipment) and carries CE marking. Complies with IEC 61800-3 (EMC environment), IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), IEC 61000-3-12 (harmonic emissions), IEC 60721-3 (environmental classification), IEC 61508 (functional safety), and IEC 13849-1 (safety-related parts). Overvoltage category III, pollution degree 2. Integrated EMC filter meets conducted emission limits for the intended installation environment; an optional EMC plate is available for higher-performance filtering. Total harmonic current distortion (THDI) is <48% at full load per IEC 61000-3-12.
