500-690 V drive for 18.5 kW motor loads
The ATV930D22Y6 is a 3-phase input variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV900 series, rated for supply voltages from 500 to 690 V. It delivers 29 A continuous output current at 4 kHz carrier frequency in normal duty, enough for an 18.5 kW asynchronous or synchronous motor. For applications requiring sustained overload capacity, the heavy-duty rating drops to 24 A at 4 kHz, supporting a 15.0 kW motor. The drive ships with an integrated braking chopper, so dynamic braking resistors can be added without an external chopper module.
Duty ratings and thermal budget
The normal-duty output current of 29 A at 4 kHz is the continuous rating for variable-torque loads like centrifugal pumps and fans. For constant-torque or high-starting-torque applications (conveyors, extruders), the heavy-duty rating of 24 A at 4 kHz applies, with a 150% overload capability for 60 seconds typical of the ATV900 family. The drive is rated for installation up to 1000 m altitude without derating. Above that, derate output current by 1% per 100 m up to 4800 m. The IP21 enclosure and UL type 1 rating mean it is suitable for indoor, non-washdown environments — plan for clean, dry panel or wall-mount installation with the vertical orientation within ±10°.
Communication and I/O flexibility
The ATV930D22Y6 comes with embedded Modbus serial, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP ports. The Ethernet port supports half/full duplex and auto-negotiation at 10 or 100 Mbits. For fieldbus-specific networks, slot A accepts optional communication modules for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, CANopen (RJ45 or SUB-D 9), and Ethernet Powerlink. Three expansion slots (A, B, C) accept digital/analog I/O extension modules and output relay modules. Slot B also supports encoder interface modules (digital 5/12 V, analog, or resolver) for closed-loop speed or position control. The built-in adjustable PID regulator handles process loops without an external controller.
The drive carries CE marking and complies with UL 508C, IEC 61800-3 (EMC environment), IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), IEC 61000-3-12 (harmonic limits), IEC 60721-3 (environmental classification), IEC 61508, and IEC 13849-1 (functional safety). The integrated EMC filter meets conducted emission limits for most industrial installations, with an optional EMC plate for higher performance. Environmental resistance is rated class 3C3 for chemical pollution and 3S3 for dust pollution per IEC 60721-3-3.
