37 kW normal duty / 30 kW heavy duty — the dual rating matters for pump and conveyor loads
The ATV930D37N4 is a 3-phase variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV900 series, rated 37.0 kW normal duty and 30.0 kW heavy duty at 380-480 V supply. The normal duty figure applies to variable-torque loads like centrifugal pumps and fans where the drive rarely sees peak current; the heavy duty figure covers constant-torque applications such as conveyors, extruders, or positive-displacement pumps that demand full current continuously. Nominal output current is 74.5 A, with continuous output current rated 74.5 A at 4 kHz carrier in normal duty and 61.5 A at 4 kHz in heavy duty. The carrier frequency can be adjusted — raising it quiets motor whine but derates the continuous current; the 4 kHz default is a practical starting point for most industrial loads.
Built-in braking chopper and integrated EMC filter
This variant ships with a braking chopper as standard, so you can add an external braking resistor for applications that need controlled deceleration — stopping a high-inertia fan or centrifuge without tripping on DC-bus overvoltage. The EMC filter is integrated; for conducted emissions compliance, an optional EMC plate can be added to meet stricter limits. The drive is wall-mount enclosed with IP21 protection and UL Type 1 rating — suitable for clean indoor environments where drip protection is sufficient. For washdown or dusty areas, a higher IP enclosure or a separate cabinet is needed.
Fieldbus flexibility and control wiring
Three option slots (A, B, C) accept communication modules for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, CANopen (daisy-chain RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals), and Ethernet Powerlink. Slot A/B/C also support digital/analog I/O extension and output relay modules; Slot B accepts encoder interfaces (digital 5/12 V, analog, or resolver). Native communication protocols include Modbus TCP, Modbus serial, and EtherNet/IP — no extra module needed for those. The control terminals accept 0.5-1.5 mm² wire; line and motor terminals take 35-50 mm². A separate 24 V DC supply (19-30 V) powers the digital inputs and STO safety function; the drive also provides a 10.5 V DC reference for a potentiometer.
The ATV930D37N4 carries CE marking and complies with UL 508C, IEC 61800-3 (EMC), IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), IEC 61000-3-12 (harmonics), IEC 60721-3 (environmental), IEC 61508 (functional safety), and IEC 13849-1. Pollution degree 2, overvoltage category III. Operating altitude up to 1000 m without derating, then 1% derating per 100 m to 4800 m. The drive is rated for 15 gn shock at 11 ms (IEC 60068-2-27) and 1.5 mm peak-to-peak vibration from 2-13 Hz, 1 gn from 13-200 Hz (IEC 60068-2-6). Relative humidity 5-95% without condensation. Noise level is 71.5 dB.
