Drive ratings and duty selection
The ATV930D90N4 is a 380-480 V 3-phase input variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV900 series, rated for 90.0 kW normal duty and 75.0 kW heavy duty. Continuous output current is 173 A at 2.5 kHz switching for normal duty, and 145 A at 2.5 kHz for heavy duty — the heavy-duty figure governs applications with sustained overload, such as crushers or extruders. The drive includes a built-in braking chopper as standard, which simplifies deceleration control for high-inertia loads without an external braking module.
Control supply and fieldbus architecture
Digital inputs require an external 24 V DC supply (19-30 V range), while the drive provides an internal 10.5 V DC reference for a 1-10 kOhm potentiometer and a separate 24 V DC supply for digital inputs and Safe Torque Off (STO) function. Communication ports support EtherNet/IP, Modbus serial, and Modbus TCP natively; option modules for PROFIBUS DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, and CANopen fit into Slot A. The Ethernet port runs at 10/100 Mbits with half/full duplex and autonegotiation, while the serial line supports 4.8 kbps, 9600 bit/s, and 19200 bit/s.
Environmental and installation constraints
Wall-mount enclosure rated IP21 / UL type 1, with an operating position vertical ±10 degrees — plan for adequate clearance above and below for the 295 m³/h cooling airflow. Vibration resistance is 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 2-13 Hz and 1 gn at 13-200 Hz; shock resistance is 15 gn for 11 ms — both per IEC 60068-2-6 and IEC 60068-2-27 respectively.

The drive carries CE marking and complies with UL 508C, IEC 61800-3 (EMC), IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), IEC 61000-3-12 (harmonic), IEC 60721-3 (environmental), IEC 61508, and IEC 13849-1 (functional safety). Total harmonic current distortion (THDI) is below 48 % from 80-100 % load per IEC 61000-3-12, aided by the integrated EMC filter.
