The ATV950D15N4 is a 15 kW normal-duty / 11 kW heavy-duty variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV900 family, designed for asynchronous and synchronous motors on 380...480 V three-phase networks. It delivers 31.7 A continuous output at 4 kHz for normal duty, 23.5 A at 4 kHz for heavy duty. The IP55 enclosure and integrated EMC filter (with optional plate) suit it for process applications in industrial environments where dust and water ingress are a concern. A built-in braking chopper handles regenerative energy from overhauling loads, eliminating the need for an external chopper module in most applications. The drive supports multiple fieldbus options via slot A (Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, CANopen, Ethernet Powerlink) and I/O expansion through slots A, B, and C.
The heavy-duty rating (11 kW / 23.5 A) is the figure to size against constant-torque loads like conveyors or extruders; the normal-duty rating (15 kW / 31.7 A) applies to variable-torque loads such as pumps and fans. Both ratings are specified at a 4 kHz switching frequency — derate output current if you raise the carrier frequency above that. The drive's THDI stays under 48 % from 80 to 100 % load per IEC 61000-3-12, which helps when multiple drives share a transformer. The 1000...4800 m operating altitude with 1 % derating per 100 m above 1000 m is a hard limit for high-altitude sites.
Integration notes
Wall-mount the drive vertically within ±10 degrees. Control wiring uses screw terminals accepting 0.5...1.5 mm²; power terminals (line, motor, DC bus) accept 10...16 mm². The internal 24 V DC supply for digital inputs and STO (21...27 V) is separate from the external 24 V DC input (19...30 V) — keep the STO supply clean and fused. The integrated EMC filter is sufficient for most installations; add the EMC plate option if conducted emissions must meet stricter limits.
