The ATV950U40N4 is a current-production Altivar Process ATV900 drive sized for a 4.0 kW induction motor on 380...480 V three-phase supply for normal duty, or 3.0 kW for heavy-duty cycles. Continuous output current is 9.3 A at 4 kHz switching frequency for normal duty, 7.2 A at 4 kHz for heavy duty. The integrated braking chopper handles dynamic braking for vertical loads or short deceleration profiles without an external resistor — though a braking resistor must still be added at the DC bus terminals. IP55 enclosure and UL Type 1 rating suit this drive for washdown or dusty environments without a separate cabinet. Wall-mount orientation vertical ±10°, with a 1000...4800 m altitude range and 1 % current derating per 100 m above 1000 m.
Fieldbus and I/O architecture
Three option slots (A, B, C) accept communication modules for PROFIBUS DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, CANopen (daisy-chain RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals), and Ethernet Powerlink. Digital and analog I/O extension modules or output relay extension modules fit any slot. Slot B also accepts 5/12 V digital encoder, analog encoder, or resolver encoder interface modules. Base communication ports support Modbus TCP, Modbus serial, and EtherNet/IP at 10/100 Mbit/s, with autonegotiation half/full duplex. Control wiring uses screw terminals accepting 0.5...1.5 mm² (AWG 20...16). DC bus, motor, and line-side terminals accept 2.5...6 mm² (AWG 14...10) for motor and line, 2.5...6 mm² (AWG 14...10) for DC bus. External 24 V DC supply for digital inputs (19...30 V), internal 24 V DC for digital inputs and STO (21...27 V), and a 10.5 V DC ±5 % reference for a 1 to 10 kΩ potentiometer.
