The ATV980C50T4X1 is a regenerative variable speed drive from the Altivar Process ATV900 family, rated for 560 kW (heavy duty) / 450 kW (normal duty) on a 480 V three-phase supply. It ships as a compact floor-standing enclosure (IP23 per IEC 61800-5-1) with the graphical operating panel, main switch, line choke, dv/dt filter choke, and motor terminals already integrated — a near turnkey package for motor control centers or standalone installations. The 480 V +/- 10 % supply at 50/60 Hz +/- 5 % feeds a three-phase input. Forced convection cooling handles the thermal load; the drive operates from 0 to 40 °C without derating, and from 40 to 50 °C with a derating factor applied.
Standards, compliance, and environmental robustness
The drive is CE marked and designed to IEC 61800-2 (adjustable speed power drive systems), IEC 61800-3 (EMC), IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), and IEC 60204-1 (electrical equipment of machines). EMC immunity meets level 3 for electrostatic discharge, radiated RF, surge, and conducted RF, and level 4 for fast transients — suitable for industrial environments with moderate to high electrical noise. Environmental resistance covers chemical pollution class 3C3, dust class 3S3, and humidity class 3K3 per IEC 60721-3-3. Vibration resistance is 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 3–20 Hz and 0.6 gn at 10–200 Hz (class 3M3). Shock resistance is 4 gn for 11 ms (class 3M2). Altitude derating begins at 1000 m: 1 % per 100 m up to 4800 m, with earthing system (TT, TN, IT) considered above 2000 m.
Integration and communication
The drive supports Modbus serial, EtherNet/IP, and Modbus TCP natively — no option card needed for these protocols. The provided enclosure (Spacial SF, light grey RAL 7035) includes a graphical operating panel mounted in the door, main supply and motor terminal blocks, a line choke, and a dv/dt filter choke. This reduces external component count and wiring for the panel builder. Operating position is vertical within ±10°. Relative humidity range is 5–95 % without condensation. The drive is intended for asynchronous and synchronous motors, making it flexible across pump, fan, conveyor, and general process applications.
