What the drive handles – key ratings at a glance
The Schneider Electric ATV9A0C20Q6 is a modular variable frequency drive in the Altivar Process ATV900 series, rated for 200 kW at 690 V heavy duty or 200 kW at 690 V normal duty. Line current sits at 163 A in heavy duty and 200 A in normal duty — the lower figure is what governs cable and fuse sizing when the load profile demands sustained torque below base speed. Apparent power reaches 239 kVA at 690 V normal duty, 195 kVA at heavy duty, giving headroom for transformer sizing. Switching frequency is adjustable between 2 and 4.9 kHz with derating; the default carrier trades audible noise for thermal margin in enclosed cabinets. Integrated EMC filter meets IEC 61800-3 category C3 and supports cable runs up to 300 m — typical for shipboard or industrial panel-to-motor distances without external filter add-ons.
Safety and compliance – built for functional safety and maritime-class environments
The drive also detects motor phase break, overspeed, line supply phase loss, and DC bus overvoltage, feeding diagnostics over the control network. Standards compliance covers IEC 61800-3 (EMC), IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), IEC 61000-3-12 (harmonic limits), and IEC 60721-3 (environmental). Pollution degree 2 per IEC 61800-5-1 keeps the drive suited for clean, climate-controlled electrical rooms.
Network slice and I/O flexibility
Native Modbus serial (RS-485 2-wire, RTU, 4.8–38.4 kbit/s) and Modbus TCP (10/100 Mbit, half/full duplex, auto-negotiation) are onboard. For other fieldbuses, Slot A accepts option cards for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, or CANopen (RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals). Slots A, B, and C accept digital/analog I/O extension modules or output relay extensions. Slot B also takes a 5/12 V digital encoder interface, analog encoder interface, or resolver interface — useful for closed-loop vector control with synchronous motors. Control wiring connects via removable screw terminals accepting 0.5–1.5 mm² (AWG 20–16). Line and motor connections are M10 bar terminals sized for the 200 A class cable.
Environmental and installation notes
Cabinet-mount design, IP00 for integration into IP21 or IP54 enclosures (UL Type 1 or 12). Forced convection cooling; noise level at 69 dB under load. Vibration resistance to 0.5 gn (13–200 Hz) and shock 4 gn, 11 ms — sufficient for shipboard auxiliary machinery rooms. Relative humidity 5–95% without condensation. Supply frequency tolerance ±5% at 50/60 Hz.
