Altivar Process ATV900 drive for 690 V heavy-duty applications
The ATV9A0C40Q6 is a modular Altivar Process ATV900 drive from Schneider, rated 400 kW at 690 V for normal duty and 315 kW for heavy duty, with an integrated EMC filter meeting IEC 61800-3 category C3 and safe torque off (STO) to SIL3. It handles synchronous and asynchronous motors, with a switching frequency adjustable from 2 to 4.9 kHz and a line current of 394 A normal duty or 316 A heavy duty at 690 V.
The heavy duty motor power (315 kW at 690 V) defines continuous capability for constant-torque loads like conveyors or extruders; the normal duty rating (400 kW) applies to variable-torque loads such as pumps and fans. Line current at heavy duty (316 A) dictates the upstream breaker and cable cross-section; the prospective line Isc of 50 kA means the drive can be installed on supply networks with high fault current capacity. The integrated EMC filter is rated for 300 m cable at C3 (second environment, industrial), so no external filter is needed for most industrial installations—saves panel space and wiring. STO SIL3 is built in, eliminating the need for a separate safety relay for torque-off functions. It is paired with thermal protection for both motor and drive, plus phase-loss and overcurrent detection.
Supply and control wiring
The drive expects an external 24 V DC supply for digital inputs (19 to 30 V), and generates internal 10.5 V for a reference potentiometer (1 to 10 kOhm) and 24 V for digital inputs and STO logic. Control connections are via removable screw terminals (0.5 to 1.5 mm², AWG 20 to 16), with line and motor connections on M10 bars. Built-in Modbus serial (RS-485, RTU) and Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP (10/100 Mbit/s) provide fieldbus connectivity; option slots accept Profibus DP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, DeviceNet, CANopen, and I/O extension modules.
The drive carries CE marking and complies with IEC 61800-3, 61800-5-1, 61000-3-12, 60721-3, 61508, and 13849-1. The variant is modular, supplied as a kit including control unit, mounting hardware, fuses, and a 200 kW power module.
