Drive selection memo — ATV9A0C40R4
The Schneider ATV9A0C40R4 is a modular Altivar Process ATV900 drive sized for a 400 kW asynchronous or synchronous motor on 440 V normal duty, or 315 kW heavy duty. Line current pulls 623 A normal duty, 501 A heavy duty at 440 V; apparent power comes to 475 kVA normal, 382 kVA heavy. The drive carries an integrated EMC filter rated for 300 m cable runs under IEC 61800-3 category C3 — no external filter needed for that reach in a controlled environment.
Switching frequency is adjustable 2.5 to 8 kHz with derating; the 2.5 kHz floor gives you headroom for long motor leads without oversizing the drive. Operating altitude reaches 4800 m with current derating above 1000 m — useful if this cabinet sits at elevation. IP00 rating means it lands in a cabinet rated IP21 or IP54; plan the gland plate and cooling accordingly. Safety function STO SIL 3 is onboard — no separate safety relay for the torque-off path. The drive also covers motor thermal protection, phase loss, overspeed, DC bus overvoltage, and line supply undervoltage on the drive side.
Fieldbus and I/O flexibility
Three option slots (A, B, C) accept communication modules for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, CANopen (daisy chain RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals), plus digital/analog I/O extension and output relay modules. Slot B also takes encoder interfaces — 5/12 V digital, analog, or resolver. The control block carries two RJ45 for Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP and one RJ45 for Modbus serial (RS-485, 2-wire, RTU, 1–247 addresses).
