The ATV9A0C40T6 is a modular Altivar Process ATV900 drive from Schneider Electric, rated 450 hp at 600 V normal duty (379 A line current) and 350 hp at heavy duty (298 A), with Safe Torque Off SIL 3 as a built-in safety function. It runs both synchronous and asynchronous motors, and the integrated EMC filter meets Category C3 for 300 m cable runs, reducing external filtering needs in industrial installations. Power is supplied at 50/60 Hz, and the drive includes a full set of protective functions: motor thermal, drive thermal, STO, overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, phase loss, and overspeed.
Specifications at a glance
Normal duty delivers 394 kVA apparent power at 600 V; heavy duty delivers 310 kVA. Prospective line short-circuit current rating is 50 kA. Switching frequency is adjustable from 2 to 4.9 kHz with derating; forced convection cooling handles the thermal load inside an IP00 chassis intended for IP21 or IP54 cabinet integration. The drive accepts line-side screw terminals and motor-side M10 bars. Control connections use removable screw terminals, 0.5–1.5 mm². Ambient conditions: pollution degree 2 per IEC 61800-5-1, operating altitude up to 2000 m with derating above 1000 m, shock 4 gn for 11 ms, vibration 1.5 mm at 2–13 Hz and 0.5 gn at 13–200 Hz.
Fieldbus and I/O flexibility
The modular design provides three option slots (A, B, C). Slot A accepts Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, CANopen (RJ45, SUB-D 9, or screw terminals). Slots B and C support digital and analog I/O extension modules and a relay output module. Built-in communication includes Modbus serial (RS-485 2-wire, 4.8–38.4 kbps, RTU, 1–247 addresses) and Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP (10/100 Mbps, half/full duplex, auto-negotiation). Digital inputs can be supplied externally at 24 V DC (19–30 V); internal supply for reference potentiometer (1–10 kΩ) is 10.5 V DC ±5%; internal supply for digital inputs and STO is 24 V DC (21–27 V). Insulation resistance is 1 MΩ at 500 V DC for 1 min. Encoder feedback options include a 5/12 V digital encoder interface, analog encoder interface, and resolver interface — all via Slot B.
As part of the Altivar Process ATV900 family, it shares common accessories, software, and documentation with other drives in the series — good for spares continuity and design-in confidence. The modular slot architecture means option cards (Profibus, PROFINET, EtherCAT, etc.) must be ordered separately for fieldbus integration.
The drive complies with IEC 61800-3 (EMC), IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), IEC 61000-3-12 (harmonics), IEC 60721-3 (environmental), IEC 61508 & ISO 13849-1 (functional safety), and UL 61800-5-1. Markings include CE; the STO function is rated SIL 3. UL type 1 and type 12 are conformant for cabinet integration. Total harmonic current distortion (THDI) is less than 48% from 80–100% load. Noise level is 70 dB per 86/188/EEC.
