Drive selection for process duty
The ATV9A0C50Q6 is a modular Altivar Process ATV900 drive rated for 500 kW at 690 V in normal duty and 400 kW in heavy duty. It drives synchronous and asynchronous motors, so it fits the common induction and permanent-magnet loads found in petrochemical and industrial processing. The integrated EMC filter meets IEC 61800-3 category C3, which removes the need for an external filter in most industrial installations where the cable run is up to 300 m. For process safety, the Safe Torque Off function is rated SIL 3 per IEC 61508. That puts it into safety instrumented system architectures directly, without extra interface hardware. The drive also carries IEC 61800-5-1, IEC 61000-3-12, and IEC 60721-3 compliance, so it’s verified for industrial power quality and environmental tolerance.
Control, communications, and integration
The modular variant allows plug-in option cards for PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, CANopen, and Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP. Dual-speed Ethernet (10/100 Mbit/s) and Modbus serial (4.8 to 38.4 kbit/s) cover most fieldbus architectures. The control terminal block accepts 0.5 to 1.5 mm² conductors; line and motor connections are M10 bar terminals for high-current cabling. The operating altitude range of 0 to 2000 m includes derating above 1000 m, which is standard for this class. Forced convection cooling keeps it within thermal limits; the switching frequency is adjustable from 2 to 4.9 kHz with derating at higher settings.
Environmental and installation conditions
Pollution degree 2 per IEC 61800-5-1. Vibration resistance is 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 2–13 Hz and 0.5 g at 13–200 Hz, shock resistance is 4 g for 11 ms, relative humidity range is 5 to 95% without condensation.
