Integrator's brief on the ATV9A0C50T4
The Schneider ATV9A0C50T4 is a modular Altivar Process ATV900 drive sized for 700 hp normal duty (600 hp heavy duty) at 480 V three-phase, drawing 736 A normal / 634 A heavy duty line current. It handles both synchronous and asynchronous motors, with a switching frequency adjustable from 2.5 to 8 kHz — expect derating above 4 kHz. The integrated EMC filter meets IEC 61800-3 category C3 for 300 m shielded cable runs, so external filters are off the BOM for most installations. Safety integration is straightforward: STO (Safe Torque Off) is rated SIL 3 per IEC 61508 and IEC 13849-1, with internal 24 V DC supply for STO and digital inputs (21...27 V). The control block carries dual RJ45 for Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP plus one RJ45 for Modbus serial (RTU, 4.8 to 38.4 kbit/s). Slot A accepts Profibus DP, PROFINET, DeviceNet, EtherCAT, or CANopen option cards — pick the fieldbus slice your PLC speaks.
The 736 A line current at 480 V normal duty sets the input conductor and fuse sizing — not the motor full-load amps, which the drive regulates. The 50 kA prospective line Isc rating means this drive withstands a 50 kA fault at its line terminals without modification, so it slots into high-SCCR panels without series-rated fuses. Apparent power of 612 kVA at 480 V normal duty gives the transformer sizing cue for the feed. The integrated EMC filter is rated for category C3 (industrial second environment) with 300 m shielded motor cable. The IP00 chassis mounts inside a cabinet rated IP21 or IP54. Standards coverage includes IEC 61800-3 (EMC), IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), IEC 61000-3-12 (harmonic limits), IEC 60721-3 (environmental), IEC 61508 and IEC 13849-1 (functional safety). CE marked. Pollution degree 2 per IEC 61800-5-1 — suitable for typical control room environments.
