400 hp at 480 V — normal-duty and heavy-duty ratings
The ATV9B0C25T4 is a modular cabinet-mount drive from the Altivar Process ATV900 family, rated 400 hp at 480 V in normal duty and 300 hp at 480 V in heavy duty. The corresponding line currents are 387 A normal duty and 292 A heavy duty — these numbers govern the upstream conductor sizing, fuse selection, and cabinet thermal budget. The drive also supports regenerative-mode operation at the same power levels, which matters for overhauling loads such as centrifuges or downhill conveyors. It drives both asynchronous (induction) and synchronous motors, with adjustable switching frequency from 2.5 to 8 kHz. Raising the carrier above the default quiets motor whine but derates the continuous output current — a standard trade-off on any VFD in this power class.
Safety function and fieldbus integration
This means the drive can be wired into a safety circuit that removes torque from the motor shaft without a separate contactor — common in guarding applications where the hazard zone must be de-energised on guard-door opening. The drive ships with dual RJ45 Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP ports plus one RJ45 Modbus serial port. Slot A accepts optional communication modules for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, CANopen (three termination variants), or EtherCAT. Slots B and C accept encoder interface modules (digital 5/12 V, analog, or resolver) and I/O extension or relay output modules. This makes the ATV9B0C25T4 adaptable to both new EtherCAT lines and legacy Profibus plants without a hardware revision.
Compliance documentation covers CE marking, IEC 61800-3 (EMC), IEC 61800-5-1 (safety), UL 61800-5-1, IEC 61508 (functional safety), and IEC 13849-1. The integrated EMC filter meets category C3 with 300 m motor cable — sufficient for most industrial installations without an external filter.
