The Schneider ATV9B0C31T4 is a modular Altivar Process ATV900 drive rated for 500 hp at 480 V normal duty and 400 hp at 480 V heavy duty, with corresponding line currents of 484 A and 387 A respectively. It carries an integrated EMC filter compliant with IEC 61800-3 category C3 for 300 m cable runs, and includes STO (safe torque off) rated SIL 3. The supply architecture is split: digital inputs and STO use a 24 V DC rail (21...27 V), while a separate 10.5 V DC ±5 % supply drives a reference potentiometer (1 to 10 kOhm).
The normal-duty rating (500 hp, 484 A) applies to variable-torque loads like fans and pumps; the heavy-duty figure (400 hp, 387 A) covers constant-torque or high-starting-torque applications such as conveyors or extruders. The regenerative-mode ratings (415.8 A normal, 332.6 A heavy) tell you the drive can handle regenerated power from overhauling loads — useful for a centrifuge or a downhill conveyor — but at a reduced current ceiling. The switching frequency is adjustable from 2 to 8 kHz; above 2.5 kHz you derate current, so if you need 4 kHz for motor noise reduction, expect to drop below the 387 A heavy-duty line.
Safety and compliance stack
Standards compliance includes IEC 61800-5-1, UL 61800-5-1, and IEC 61000-3-12 for harmonics. The drive carries CE marking and meets pollution degree 2. For cabinet integration, the IP00 chassis achieves UL Type 1 or Type 12 when mounted in a suitable enclosure.
Fieldbus and I/O options
The drive ships with dual RJ45 ports for Ethernet IP and Modbus TCP, plus a separate RJ45 for Modbus serial (RS-485, RTU, 4.8 to 38.4 kbit/s). Slot A accepts communication modules for Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, CANopen, or EtherCAT. Slots A/B/C can host digital/analog I/O extension modules or relay output cards. Slot B also handles encoder interfaces (digital 5/12 V, analog, or resolver). For a mill drive, the resolver feedback option is the one that holds strip tension under heavy load.
