The BMEP582020: Onboard memory includes 8 MB for program, 768 kB for data, and 4 GB expandable flash for data storage. Integrated RAM holds 10 kB system memory. Communication is via two Ethernet TCP/IP device ports plus one service port and a USB mini B for local programming. A full set of status LEDs (RUN, ERR, I/O, DL, BACKUP, ETH MS, Eth NS) provides immediate visual diagnostics.
Compliance and cybersecurity — built for regulated infrastructure
The BMEP582020 holds a broad compliance package: IEC 61131-2, IEC 61010-2-201, UL 61010-2-201, CSA C22.2 No 61010-2-201, IACS, and EN/IEC 61000-6-5. It is also certified per EN/IEC 61850-3 for substation automation, making it suitable for utility and industrial grid applications. The module carries an Achilles cybersecurity certification with DoS prevention, IPSec, SNMP logging, syslog, TLS, audit trail, embedded firewall, firmware signature, password protection, port hardening, secure HTTPS communication, and a security log. Directives covered include 2014/35/EU Low Voltage and 2014/30/EU EMC. The module is TAA/BAA compliant via COTS. Operating temperature range is 0 to 60 °C, storage -40 to 85 °C, with 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity at 55 °C.
Application structure and integration notes
The BMEP582020 supports one cyclic/periodic master task, 64 event tasks, two auxiliary tasks, and one periodic fast task. It can manage up to 128 distributed equipment nodes and communicate with two Ethernet communication modules and four AS-Interface modules. Application-specific I/O types include HART, SSI encoder, motion control, serial link, accurate time stamping, and counter. The module also supports DIO scanner service. Physical rating: 30 gn shock resistance, 3 gn vibration, IP20 protection. Altitude operation 0 to 2000 m (derated to 5000 m). Current consumption is 270 mA at 24 V DC from the rack.
