Processor placement in a Modicon M340 rack
The BMXP3420102 is a Modicon M340 processor module that draws its supply from the rack backplane, so no separate 24 VDC feed to the module itself — budget the 90 mA draw in the rack power supply sizing. It hosts two fieldbus personalities: a CANopen master port (M20 DS 301/303-2/405, up to 63 nodes, bit rates from 20 kbit/s to 1 Mbit/s) and a non-isolated serial Modbus port (RS232C or RS485, RTU/ASCII, up to 19.2 kbit/s). The CANopen bus handles up to 64 devices per segment depending on data rate; the Modbus port addresses 0..248 slaves in RTU or ASCII mode. Internal RAM is 4096 kB total (256 kB dedicated to data, 3584 kB for program, constants, and symbols). A supplied memory card (BMXRMS008MP) provides backup of programs, constants, symbols, and data in case of power loss.
Performance and task structure
Executes Boolean logic in 0.12 µs, single-length words in 0.25 µs, and floating-point operations in 1.16 µs. Mixed instruction throughput is 6.4 Kinst/ms at 65 % Boolean + 35 % fixed arithmetic; pure Boolean reaches 8.1 Kinst/ms. Application structure allows one cyclic/periodic master task, one periodic fast task, and up to 64 event tasks. The fast-task overhead is 0.13 ms; the master task overhead is 0.7 ms. Supports up to 256 analogue I/O channels and 4 racks. CANopen motion control is available for independent axis control — relevant if you are coordinating servo or stepper drives over the CANopen bus.
Carries marking for CE, UL, CSA, RCM, EAC, UKCA, China RoHS, and WEEE. Conforms to IEC 61131-2, IEC 61010-2-201, UL 61010-2-201, CSA C22.2 No 61010-2-201, IACS, EN/IEC 61000-6-5 (interface types 1 and 2), and EN/IEC 61850-3 (location G). Ambient operating temperature range is 0…60 °C, with relative humidity 5…95 % without condensation. IP20 protected; protective treatment is TC (conformal coating per class TC). For semiconductor fab or harsh environment use, the coating limits particle shedding and moisture ingress.
