The C163TM160C is a TM-D thermal-magnetic trip unit for the ComPacT NSX160 molded-case circuit breaker frame, rated 160 A at 50 °C and built to EN/IEC 60947-2. It provides LI protection — thermal overload (L) with an adjustable long-time pickup Ir from 0.7 to 1 x In, and fixed magnetic short-circuit protection (I) at 1250 A. The 3-pole 3D configuration covers three protected poles for distribution applications in AC or DC networks up to 690 V AC 50/60 Hz or 750 V DC.
The adjustable Ir (0.7–1 x In) lets you set the overload threshold between 112 A and 160 A to match the downstream cable or load, not the breaker frame. The fixed Ii of 1250 A (about 7.8 x In) clears hard shorts fast, but if your installation requires a lower magnetic pickup (e.g., for long feeder runs with high inrush), this fixed point rules out that trip unit — you would step to an adjustable-magnetic version. Rated operational voltage of 690 V AC / 750 V DC means it handles standard 400 V three-phase panels with headroom, and can be used in DC circuits up to 750 V — common for solar combiner boxes or battery distribution. IP40 front face protection (IEC 60529) means tools or fingers over 1 mm cannot contact live parts from the front — standard for enclosed panel-mount breakers. No earth-leakage protection is integrated; if ground-fault detection is needed, an external Vigi module or separate RCD is required.
Deployment context
This trip unit snaps into a ComPacT NSX160 fixed-mount breaker for distribution panels. The fixed-mount form factor suits main or feeder breakers in a panel — no draw-out mechanism, so the breaker must be de-energised to swap the trip unit. The 3D protected poles cover all three phases; the breaker body itself is 3P, meaning the neutral is not switched or protected.
