Motor-protection MCCB with magnetic-only trip
The Schneider Electric C16N3MA150 is a ComPacT NSX160N moulded-case circuit breaker (MCCB) with a magnetic-only MA trip unit, rated 150 A at 65 °C, 3-pole, designed specifically for motor protection. The MA trip provides short-circuit (magnetic) protection only — no thermal overload element — so the motor's own overload relay handles the thermal curve. This is standard practice for motor branch circuits where the MCCB clears faults and the overload relay protects against running overcurrent. Breaking capacity is 50 kA Icu at 380/415 V AC 50/60 Hz per IEC 60947-2, which covers the majority of industrial 400 V distribution panels. At 220/240 V AC it rises to 90 kA Icu; at 660/690 V AC it drops to 10 kA Icu. The N breaking capacity code (50 kA at 415 V AC) suits most downstream motor starters without requiring a current-limiting upstream breaker.
Front connections both upside and downside. IK07 impact resistance (2 J) covers incidental tool drops during installation.
Mechanical durability is 40,000 cycles. Electrical durability at 440 V is 20,000 cycles at rated current (In), 40,000 cycles at In/2. At 690 V it drops to 7,500 cycles at In, 15,000 at In/2. These numbers matter for motor-starting duty where the breaker sees frequent switching — if your application cycles the MCCB more than a few thousand times a year, factor the electrical endurance into the maintenance schedule. Power dissipation per pole is 8.55 W — at 150 A that is about 25.7 W total across three poles, which should be included in the panel thermal budget.
