The D curve means the magnetic trip operates at 10 to 14 times the rated current (10...14 x In) — designed for loads with high inrush, like motor starters, transformers, or discharge lighting, where a B or C curve would nuisance-trip on startup. The 16 A rating at 40 °C is the continuous current it carries without tripping in a 40 °C ambient; derate for higher panel temperatures per the thermal curve. Breaking capacity is specified per IEC 60947-2: 30 kA Icu at 230...240 V AC, 15 kA at 400...415 V AC, and 10 kA at 440 V AC.
