Control relay for panel builders
The Schneider Electric CAE31N5 is an Easy TeSys control relay with a 3 NO + 1 NC pole configuration, designed for switching control circuits in industrial panels. It carries a 415 V AC 50 Hz coil and is rated for operational voltages up to 690 V, covering most standard motor control centre (MCC) and distribution panel signal levels. Rated for utilisation categories AC-15 and AC-14 per EN/IEC 60947-5-1, meaning it handles electromagnetic loads like contactor coils and solenoid valves (AC-15) as well as resistive and lightly inductive pilot-duty loads (AC-14). This is the key selection parameter — if your circuit drives a contactor or relay coil, AC-15 is the rating that confirms the relay can handle the inrush without contact welding. Operating temperature spans -20 to 70 °C with storage from -60 to 80 °C, and the relay operates without derating up to 3000 m altitude. The IP2X finger-safe enclosure means it can be mounted in open panel sections without additional shrouding, though not in washdown zones.
The CAE31N5 occupies a 45 mm wide by 74 mm high by 80 mm deep footprint — standard for Easy TeSys control relays. Spring-cage or screw-clamp terminals accept 0.2–2.5 mm² conductors; strip 8 mm for reliable cage closure. Mechanical robustness is specified at 7 Gn shock (relay open) and 10 Gn (closed), with vibration resistance of 1.5 Gn open and 3 Gn closed across 5–300 Hz. This makes it suitable for mounting on machine frames or in mobile equipment panels where shock and vibration are present.
