What the 800 A AC-23A rating means for your distribution board
The Schneider Electric ENW13284 is a 3-pole switch disconnector from the EasyPact NW range, rated 800 A in AC-23A utilisation category at 440 V AC. The 12 kV impulse rating means it can survive transient overvoltages common in industrial distribution without flashover — relevant if your panel feeds long cable runs or sits near VFDs that generate switching spikes. Short-time withstand current (Icw) is 50 kA for 1 second at 220–440 V, and the rated short-circuit making capacity (Icm) is 75 kA at the same voltage range. For selectivity coordination, the 50 kA Icw tells you this switch can hold in during a downstream fault long enough for the upstream breaker to clear — it won't weld or blow open on a through-fault within that window.
Mounts fixed to a rail base plate — not a standard DIN rail, but a dedicated backplate that bolts into the enclosure. Dimensions are 346 mm wide by 301 mm high by 196 mm deep, so plan for a cabinet depth of at least 250 mm to allow rear cable access and bending radius. Connection is rear-entry only, vertical or horizontal orientation, with a 70 mm phase-to-phase pitch without spreader. That pitch matches standard busbar systems in 800 A switchgear — no adapter needed if your distribution uses 70 mm centres. IP30 protection means it's not sealed against water ingress — suitable for indoor switchboards only, not washdown or outdoor locations.
