What this 4000 A drawout breaker is for
The ENW24236 is a Schneider Electric EasyPact NW circuit breaker rated 4000 A at 40 °C, built for distribution duty in industrial switchgear. It's a 4-pole drawout unit with rear horizontal/vertical connection — the kind of breaker that goes into a main or tie position on a 690 V AC switchboard. The 55 kA Icu at 220...440 V AC (42 kA at 690 V) tells you it handles high fault current without upstream fuses, and the Category B utilisation means it's designed for selectivity with downstream breakers, not just point protection.
The Ics (service breaking capacity) is the same 55 kA at that voltage, meaning it can clear repeated faults at that level and still carry rated current. That's unusual; many breakers derate Ics to 50% or 75% of Icu. Here, Ics = Icu at 440 V, so this unit is built for high-fault installations where you can't afford to lose the main on a downstream short.
Integration into the switchboard
Drawout mounting on rails, rear connection with 115 mm pitch without spreader. The neutral is on the right (fixed position). IP40 enclosure protection keeps tools and fingers out but isn't sealed against water; install in a cabinet rated for the environment. Mechanical durability is 20000 cycles with maintenance, 10000 without — that's a lot of racking operations before the mechanism needs attention.
Certified to IEC 60947-2 for circuit breakers. Rated insulation voltage 1000 V AC, impulse withstand 12 kV. Suitability for isolation is confirmed — the contact position indicator gives visual confirmation of open/closed state, which is what you need for a visible-break isolation point. Storage temperature range -40...85 °C without control unit; operating -5...60 °C. The 25 ms maximum breaking time means fast arc extinction on fault.
