What the 2000 A AC-23A rating means for your load
The Schneider Electric ENW24273 is a 4-pole switch disconnector from the EasyPact NW range, rated 2000 A in AC-23A duty at 690 V. AC-23A covers switching of motor loads and other highly inductive circuits — this is not a general-purpose resistive-load switch. The 2000 A figure governs the maximum operational current for making and breaking motor circuits, so it is sized for large distribution or motor-control centre incomers, not branch circuits. Rated short-time withstand (Icw) is 50 kA for 1 s and 25 kA for 3 s, which means the disconnector can ride through a fault long enough for an upstream protective device to clear — critical for selective coordination in a switchboard. The short-circuit making capacity (Icm) of 105 kA AC confirms it can close onto a bolted fault without welding contacts.
Isolation and environmental fit
The ENW24273 is certified for isolation per IEC 60947-3, with a clearly marked contact-position indicator and a rated impulse withstand voltage of 12 kV. IP40 protection keeps tools and fingers out but does not seal against water; mount it inside a cabinet if washdown is present. Fixed mounting on a base plate, rear connection, neutral on the right, and a 115 mm connection pitch without spreader. The 537 mm width and 352 mm height mean it needs a generous backplate cutout — verify your enclosure door swing clears the handle travel before committing the BOM.
