It carries a 2500 A operational current in AC-23A utilisation at 690 V AC, which means it handles the high inrush of motor loads or mixed resistive-inductive circuits without derating — AC-23A is the heavy-duty category for frequent switching of motors and other high-inrush loads per IEC 60947-3.
Ratings that govern fit
Short-time withstand (Icw) is 66 kA for 1 s or 36 kA for 3 s, and short-circuit making capacity (Icm) is 143 kA peak at 50/60 Hz. These numbers tell you the switch can survive and close into a fault up to those levels without welding or bursting, which is critical for selective coordination in a distribution panel. The IP40 enclosure keeps tools and fingers out but is not washdown-rated; mount it inside a cabinet or a dry indoor location.
Isolation and mechanical endurance
The ENW24290 is certified as a disconnector (isolator) per IEC 60947-3, with a visible contact position indicator — you can verify the contacts are open for safe maintenance lockout. Electrical durability for AC-23A duty is 5,000 cycles at 440 V and 2,500 cycles at 690 V. That is not a daily-switch part; it is sized for infrequent but high-current isolation, typical in main distribution or feeder disconnects.
Mounting and connection
Fixed mounting on a base plate, rear connection with a 115 mm pitch without spreader. Neutral is on the right (4-pole, right-hand neutral). The connection position accepts both vertical and horizontal busbar arrangements. Dimensions are 537 mm wide, 352 mm high, 297 mm deep — plan your enclosure depth accordingly; the 297 mm depth plus rear cable bending space usually calls for a 600 mm deep cabinet.
