Planetary gearbox, 40 mm, 9:1 reduction
The GBX0400090554F is a 40 mm-diameter planetary gearbox from the Schneider Electric GBX series, with straight-cut teeth and a 9:1 reduction ratio. It delivers 16.5 N.m continuous output torque at 100 rpm and 30 °C, with a maximum intermittent torque of 26 N.m under the same conditions. Rated efficiency is 94 %, and the no-load noise level is 55 dB measured at 1 m — both figures at the rated speed. The gearbox is lubricated for life and sealed to IP54 at the shaft output, making it suitable for clean, dry environments where periodic re-lubrication is impractical.
Torque, load, and service life
Continuous torque rating is 16.5 N.m at 100 rpm and 30 °C; the maximum intermittent torque is 26 N.m at the same speed and temperature. Service life is 30000 hours under continuous rated load, after which the gear train may exceed the 28 arcmin maximum torsional backlash. Maximum axial force on the output shaft is 200 N for a 10000-hour life at 30 °C, derated to 160 N for the full 30000-hour service life. Radial force limits follow the same profile: 200 N at 10000 hours, 160 N at 30000 hours, with the force applied at mid-span on the output shaft. Torsional rigidity is 1.1 N.m per arcminute of wind-up, which gives a stiffness figure for positioning applications where angular deflection under load matters more than the backlash spec.
The housing is black anodized aluminium, the shaft is C45 carbon steel, and the operating ambient range is -25 to 90 °C. These material and environmental specs are the same as the active GBX series, so a replacement from the same family with the same frame size and ratio is the practical path if a direct drop-in is needed.
