Planetary gearbox, 60 mm frame, 25:1 reduction
The GBX0600250554F is a 60 mm diameter planetary gearbox from Schneider Electric's GBX series, using straight-cut gear teeth for the reduction stage. The 25:1 ratio drops a motor's output speed by a factor of 25 while multiplying torque — at 100 rpm input the continuous output torque is 40 N.m, with a peak of 64 N.m available for transient loads. Efficiency sits at 94 %, meaning 6 % of the input power is lost as heat through the gear mesh and bearing friction. For a servo or stepper motor application, that heat stays inside the aluminium housing — the black anodized body acts as the heatsink, so the ambient operating range of -25 to 90 °C sets the thermal envelope. The gearbox is lubricated for life at the factory — no oil changes, no grease ports. Service life is rated 30,000 hours at 100 rpm and 30 °C ambient, running at the continuous torque limit. That is roughly 3.4 years of 24/7 operation before the backlash or noise drifts outside the design window.
Load ratings and mechanical limits
The output shaft carries C45 steel and accepts both radial and axial loads. Maximum radial force is 340 N applied at mid-shaft for the full 30,000-hour life, or 500 N if you accept a shorter 10,000-hour service interval. Axial force limits are 450 N for the long life, 600 N for the shorter window — both at 100 rpm and 30 °C. Torsional rigidity is 2.5 N.m per arcminute of wind-up — a 40 N.m load twists the output shaft about 16 arcminutes before the gear teeth take up the slack. The maximum torsional backlash of 20 arcminutes is the total angular play measured at no load; in a positioning axis this sets the repeatability floor unless the controller compensates. Shaft output sealing is IP54, which keeps dust and splashing water out of the bearing cavity. The gearbox body itself is not sealed — the IP rating applies only at the output shaft lip seal. Mounting orientation matters: the breather path (if any) should face downward to avoid pooling water at the seal lip.
